You diss BB and GG, I diss you.

Read this article and then the comments below to get what I’m saying.

Now, I’m bored at work, so let me rant. RRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEE FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

A certain BlindGhost has made several comments that have irked me to no end. Goddamned King of Fighter fanboy.

Before I begin ranting in the most scathing yet matter-of-fact way, here’s Arcadia Magazine’s ranking for the month of May, taken from here. I’d also like to point out the lack of KoF XII in the top 10. See also the June rankings here.

Video Games
1. Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion – 365.4 (-)
2. Blazblue – 274.2 (-)
3. Mobile Suit Gundam: Gundam vs Gundam – 260.3 (-)
4. Sugoi! Arcana Heart 2: Tenkousei Akane to Nazuna – 217.2 (UP)
5. Melty Blood: Actress Again – 184.7 (DOWN)
6. Virtua Fighter 5R – 115.6 (-)
7. Guilty Gear XX Accent Core – 111.5 (UP)
8. Street Fighter IV – 83.4 (DOWN)
9. Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike – 76.1 (UP)
10. Death Smiles Mega Black Label – 52.4 (-)

Blazblue is second only to Tekken, which I’m not too big a fan of, but still think is a decent game. In fact, in April BB unseated Tekken to top Arcadia’s charts.

Ok, rant time. I realise the argument is over a week old, but whatever. I’ll fish out key points in his comments and respond here.

1. Guilty Gear is mediocre.

Are you fucking kidding me. If GG is mediocre, explain why GGXXAC is still in the top10, besting even SF4 at that. A game that was released almost 3 years ago beating a game that was so highly anticipated and just recently released? [sarcasm]Yeah, GG sucks alright. [/sarcasm] GG has been hailed as one of the best, if not the best, 2D fighter around. You’re telling me its mediocre?

2. BB cannot compare to KoF, Last Blade, Garou, Samshou or SF.

Refer to the top10, that’s proof enough BB is better than KoF and SF.

3. Astral Heat = Instant Kill

So fucking wrong I don’t even know where to begin, so let’s start with listing characteristics of the aforementioned techniques.

ASTRAL HEAT: Requires the opponent to have less than 20% health, 100% Heat Guage, and can only be done in the last round of a match.

INSTANT KILL: No prerequisites, needs to be in Instant Kill mode, any amount of Tension will do, can be done as and when you like.

He also says that if the opponent has 20% left he could finish him off with a jab. He obviously has not heard of “making a comeback” . And beating your enemy with a jab is like scrubbing out. Win with flair and style, n00b.

4. SNK is about small combos that are good if you’re an expert player who can link them.

So far, I’ve seen beastly combos from the old KoFs, even some even 100% combos. After watching alot of GG videos, spending time practicing my combos and playing a few matches, I have only seen one time where a combo took 100%; GGXX#R Sol’s Dustloop took out Chipp, but that’s because 1. Chipp has the worst defence in the game and 2. he was blocking a pressure string, which sapped his guard guage to almost nothing, making him take extra damage.

5. GG is slow.

I’d like to call all GG players who have played KoF to compare. Having played KoF for a short time myself I can safely say GG is several times faster than KoF. In fact, I’d be willing to wager that GG is the fastest 2D fighting game out there.

6. BB copies from other 2D fighters, character design sucks, its lame, Arc System Works tries too hard.

BB is a spiritual successor to GG, so I don’t see a problem with the two being similar. They’re by the same company and produced by the same team, for crying out loud. Comparing BB to KoF and SF, I think its obvious BB isn’t copying anything from them, from game mechanics to character design to music. If the character design sucks in BB, I’d have to say all the other fighting games out there suck too. Just comparing KoF’s and BB’s, I’d say its no contest. I’ll admit, KoFXII looks great and all, but the level of detail Arc System Works puts into not only the character design, but the sprite art and its backgrounds are the best I’ve ever seen, topping everything they’ve done in GG. Arc System tries too hard? They’re only trying to best what they’ve done in GG, and after following GG for almost three years now, I’d say they’ve outdone themselves.

7. KoF is more complex than GG, GG is about button mashing, its easy to pull many hit combos.

GG is hands down more complex than KoF, and more complex than KoF will ever get, probably. Look at all the mechanics; the Guard Guage, the different Bursts, damage scaling, False Roman Cancels, Faultless Defence, Instant Block, Slash Back… And you say KoF is more complex? You best be joking, bitch.

GG is about button mashing and its easy to pull off many hit combos? Show me some scrubs brainlessly mash out a Sidewinder Loop, or an Axl Bomber Loop. Until then, we can safely agree that GG is not about mashing.

8. GG characters have no background history, KoF/SF has a better story, no one cares about GG’s story.

Uh huh. So Sol’s history of being the prototype Gear, joining the Holy Order to combat Gears, creating the Outrage, becoming a bounty hunter to hunt gears, reasons for going after That Man, all doesn’t count as backstory?

If no one cares about GG’s story, then who’s to say anyone gives a fuck about KoF/SF’s story?

9. KoF’s fanbase makes it better than GG.

What the flying f-

From everything I’ve read from this guy’s comments, he’s a KoF fanboy through and through who doesn’t know anything about playing or watching and appreciating a good match of GG, or any other fighting game for that matter. Sure, everything is a matter of opinion, but there are certain aspects that cannot be ignored that makes GG/BB great games. Of course, its all about preference, and if you’ve followed my blog or refer to some of my older posts, I make it clear I’m a GG/BB fan. Yes, I’ve played KoF and SF (though admittedly not on a competetive level, but neither have I been playing GG or BB at competetive levels) and I like GG/BB better.

I hope he sees this and comes here to diss me back. Moar traffic pl0x.

  1. lolz, about the story, I DID take notice of GG’s story while I don’t even know what’s going on in KOF.

  2. Why care about plots when fighting games are meant for… fighting? I seriously have no idea what KOF’s and GG’s storyline are about ^^;

  3. @ina and yume I’m a GG fanboy through and through, so it stands to reason that I know GG’s story… somewhat. I didn’t like KoF enough to want to know the story :/

And yes, just care about the game mechanics D: they’re more important than knowing Dizzy’s age or May’s birthdate, lol

  4. “they’re more important than knowing Dizzy’s age or May’s birthdate”

    lulz, I like that.
