Origins

Posted in Random on July 29, 2008 by malzias the bloodedge

Nothing much to say right now; I’m saving up my post on the 8minutes film competition for when it ends. So… I’ll just give a short background on my blog’s title.

“Keep Yourself Alive”, and subsequently “Keep Yourself Alive II” and “Keep Yourself Alive III”, is the title of the theme song for Sol Badguy from the Guilty Gear series, IMO the best 2D fighting game there is.

This is actually a song by Queen of the same name.

New theme!

Posted in Random with tags on July 23, 2008 by malzias the bloodedge

I sorta got bored with the old theme. Isn’t this nicer?

Just in case you didn’t know, my favorite color is black, followed by red.

Also because I’ve been feeling kinda down lately, and I have no idea why. So darkness is just right for my frame of mind right now. *hides in shadows*

Ex-WrathOfGod Outing!

Posted in Life with tags , on July 21, 2008 by malzias the bloodedge

Wazaa!

I was MIA from teh interwebs yesterday cuz we haz OUTING! WrathOfGod ex-members met yesterday for a gathering, and also to hang out with KageKurenai who was visiting from Brunei. It was a small gathering; at any one point in time we had around 8-10 people invading walking around Suntec City. MinistryOfLaw aka Sally, the queen organiser; Inazuki, our resident long-haired kid; Mafiaso, the faction bouncer; Sanzen, the triple-bikini-elementalist-user; Yumeno, the PvP enthusiast; aLKayeL, the big-daddy of WoG; Ochazuke, his gay partner cousin; Tea and Nagare, new members of the WoG family; KageKurenai, the self-proclaimed buaya visiting from Brunei; Lighto, the one who lost weight after quitting GE and me, Malzias, the newly demoted Faction Slave promoted Deputy Leader for IraDeorum.

We went for lunch at Marina Square’s Ministry Of Food (strange, MinistryOfLaw organising lunch at Ministry Of Food…hmm) a Japanese restaurant behind Kenny Roger’s. Mafia was late, so the rest of us (excluding Lighto, who was still working) had our lunch there. Nothing much, just the standard Japanese fare. What made the outing fun was the meeting of people we only knew from an online game; both exciting and foreboding at the same time. I’d met most of the members before, except Kage, Tea and Nagare.

After lunch we went to look for Lighto at Suntec; he’s working at 25Hours. We said hi, then proceeded to walk around, then down to the Fountain of Wealth. We originally wanted to bring Kage there to take a look and perhaps do the walk around the central fountain, but there was a queue there o_O” So we dumped that idea and went upstairs to the place immediately above the Fountain to take some pictures. I’ll post them up when I grab them from Sally ~(._.~)

We then went to hang around, eventually sitting down at Carl’s Jr. so that Mafia can have his breakfast (at freakin’ 4pm) and so aLK and Ocha can have something to eat (they only had desert at MOF) We waited there, chatted about GE, about life, compared prices between Singapore and Brunei in electronics and other stuff. Apparently electronics in Brunei are around a hundred bucks more expensive than those in Singapore, which is why Kage’s gonna buy his external HDD and PSP here. aLK, Ocha, Yumeno and Mafi left earlier, and didn’t join us for dinner :o

Lighto got off from work at 7, he found us at around 7.30, then we went for dinner at ThaiExpress @ CityLink Mall. I must say the food there is really good, a must try for all you Thai food fanatics. Their tom yum was excellent; even though I only had one spoonful from Lighto’s bowl and the words of everyone else there praising it to go by on, but it really was good. The prices are also quite reasonable for the standard of food, so a +1 from me. :D

Quite a fun day, lots of laughter and jokes and whatnot.

You know you’re gaming too much when…

Posted in Gaming, Random with tags on July 17, 2008 by malzias the bloodedge

1. …you see Grim Grips everywhere and start trying to grab them with your imaginary Devil Bringer.

2. …you meet a friend at a crowded place and when you don’t see him/her, you “PM” him/her and ask “Eh, what channel ah?”

3. …you start worrying about zombies attacking you.

4. …you carry a gun around to shoot zombies and/or demons.

5. …you yell phrases your favourite characters like to use.

6. …you investigate the corpse of the ant you just killed to see if he dropped any good loots.

7. …you think every exam or assignment is a boss fight.

8. …you lose sleep wondering how you’re gonna overcome that ‘boss fight’.

9. …you want to carry a hugeass sword and have a gravity-defying hairstyle just to show you’re cool.

10. …you can add to this list.

Again and again and…

That’s school life, I guess. One assignment’s done, another one pops up and smacks you in the face. Then stomps you as you try to get up.

Anyway.

Finally got DMC4 for PC and am playing it; currently at Chapter 7 or so. I played DMC3, died repeatedly at the first boss and decided to skip it. With a semi-fearful mindset in place I decided to try out DMC4…

And it rocks.

Nero is a completely fresh new approach to the gameplay; where Dante in DMC3 was simply hack, slash, shoot and style, Nero has a new weapon to add to the arsenal: the Devil Bringer.

The Devil Bringer adds a whole new level to the mixture of hack-and-slash; combos can now be extended by dragging the opponent nearer to Nero and starting a whole new combo. For a flashier (and more damaging) finisher, one can also drag the opponent back to do a Buster a grapple attack with the Devil Bringer.

In essence, the Devil Bringer opens up more opportunities and more stylish combos, trademark of the DMC series.

Another interesting mechanic is the Exceed system which Nero’s sword(which seems mass-produced for use by members of the Order of the Sword, albeit a weaker version) the Red Queen incorporates. Charging up to a maximum of three levels, Nero’s sword techniques become much stronger.

I haven’t played til Dante’s parts (I hear he has a new weapon) but til then, I’m gonna  kick some serious demon butt with Nero.

So far, the story’s pretty interesting. If not for my work and other stuff (Read: GE) I’d be playing this game all the way to completion. Without sleep and food, if I could.

All in all, worth the wait. Even running it on low graphics on my overloaded computer, the game looks gorgeous, with the effects making every battle seem that much more cool.
